Passing of Jag CEO

Since the company was founded in 1922, Jaguar has evolved from the production of motorcycle sidecars to become one of the world’s leading designers and manufacturers of premium sedans and sports cars. Few marques on the road today have a heritage as rich and distinguished as Jaguar.

The Mark VII saloon was unveiled at the 1950 Motor Show. Jaguar until then, had a reputation as a builder of very fine sports cars; now it had a superb large saloon! Sadly, Geoff Polites, chief executive officer of Jaguar Land Rover, has died. Polites had been battling with cancer and returned to his home country of Australia shortly before his death. His drive and determination, combined with his clear sense of vision for the business, played a huge role in turning round the business at Jaguar Land Rover and returning it to profitability. He had returned the business to profitability and had negotiated its recent sale to Tata Motors.

Polites held numerous positions within Ford prior to his appointment as CEO in 2005, including vice president, marketing, sales and service, and vice president European sales staff, Ford of Europe. From 1999 to 2004 he was president of Ford Australia. He was something of an icon throughout his almost 40-year career in the automotive industry. His passion for the car business was legendary, but the resolve he showed since taking over as CEO of Jaguar Land Rover in 2005 was something very special.
