New Volvo DRIVe Luxury Car
When it comes to being green and making cars that fit the criteria, manufactures have coined their own buzz words to describe their products - Bluemotion, Greenline, Ecomotive, Ecoughsyrup and Econetic. Now there's another one DRIVe. DRIVe is Volvo's attempt at a fuel efficient vehicle that has high-mpg and low CO2 emissions. Volvo's eco-friendly DRIVe models will debuted at this year’s Paris Motor Show.
Rather than just focus on the power plant, Volvo used a holistic approach. They carefully analysed the whole car to see what could be done to improve reduce fuel consumption while not compromising driving; resulting in a reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Volvo looked at four main areas when tackling the problem. They reduced the car’s air resistance by aerodynamically optimising the whole car. Fitting new generation “Michelin’ tyres lowered the vehicles ‘rolling resistance.’ Higher gearbox ratios result in a 1.5% reduction in fuel consumption without affecting the drivability of the car. And, finally they attacked the driveline. Changing the transmission oil alone resulted in 0.75 better fuel consumption.
And it seems the hard work has paid off. The new 1.6D DRIVe models claim to offer a very frugal fuel consumption of 64.2mpg on the C30 and 62.8mpg in the S40 and V50 models and CO2 figures of just 115g/km for the C30 and 118g/km for the S40 and V50. These low CO2 emissions mean that the Volvo C30 and V50 are top of their class. The luxury diesel variants are sure to appeal to corporate clients.
The cars' exceptional environmental performance means that drivers can count on various financial incentives to further keep down running costs. Already thirteen European countries, including the UK, where CO2-based vehicle taxation systems, have already been implemented; offer lower road tax, registration tax or other similar forms of financial incentives. And, rising fuel prices also make the Volvo 1.6D DRIVe performance very attractive as fuel consumption can reach 76.3mpg at motorway speeds.
Therefore, Volvo’s DRIVe fuel efficient diesel will reduce the cost of running a limo and make hiring luxury car more affordable for both regular and corporate clientele.
