Obesere is his stage name, his real name is Abass Akande Adeniy, and he has had a variety of jobs before going into music. He used to be a boxer after that he became a printer. Then he tried his hands in the electronic business. But it was in music that he finally claims he found his calling. But it was on the advice of others that he went into music as a full time career. Although according to Obesere, he was born into the house of music; it seems music runs in his family. (His late uncle and grandfather were both musicians.)
It was while trying his hand at these different professions that he started singing. According to Obesere a lot of people felt that he should concentrate fully on his music. He said that people told him that he had a good voice, and that when he used to sing, he attracted a lot of attention.
Although his success in music has made Obesere a wealthy man, he said that his recent acquisition of a stretch-limousine is not just about being or celebrity or his image. He said he wanted ‘to shut all mouths’ that belonged to those who have been calling themselves ‘king.’ Be that as it may money does talk. According to Obesere, the limo cost N70 million, which he said he didn’t think was too much for him.
